Jones has spoken about ideas for sequels, and the World of Warcraft WoTLK Gold universe is unquestionaly massive and seemingly ripe for opportunities to tell stories. However, like the extended 40-minute version, whether Jones is able to make more films will depend upon what happens with the first movie.
An anonymous source speaking with The Hollywood Reporter recently said an idea is already underway for a sequel, but acknowledged that it will require an even lower budget for the project to go ahead.
In the total of $430 million World of Warcraft has earned across the globe, a staggering 89 percent originated outside of that of the United States. The film earned nearly $221 million, which is more than half the total gross--in China alone, while the US came up with just $46.6 million of the gross.
" World of Warcraft is a strange box-office beast and unlike anything that the industry has experienced," analyst Jeff Bock stated recently. "If China didn't end up exceeding its budget it would have been an utter failure. This is now just a minor concussion."
With a budget reported at $160 million sources linked to the movie expect that it will lose approximately $15 million. The report previously stated that it could make its profit on the potential on the Chinese market.
While it may look like a loser, World of Warcraft WoTLK Classic Gold has become the highest-grossing online video game film ever, beating the Jake Gyllenhaal-starring Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ($336 million worldwide).
